Missed-call signals
Giving a missed call meant ringing and hanging up after a ring or two, to send someone a signal without paying for a call.
Era: 2000s
What it was like
In the 2000s calls were expensive, so one missed call could mean 'I've arrived', 'come down' or 'call me back'.
Friends even had their own codes for how many missed calls meant what.
Questions
- Did a missed call cost money?
- No. If it was cut before anyone answered, there was normally no charge; that was the whole trick.
